I was born in Mandeville, Jamaica, in 1967, the beginning of a turbulent time in Jamaica's history. Eight generations of my family are buried on the island. My roots are planted deep in the island soil and throughout the Caribbean—replanted roots from around the globe, representing the island’s diverse and rich culture, creating a society of inclusion steeped in one love I am the author of two books, based in my native Jamaican.
Growing up in the Caribbean, the greatest lesson I learned was that society was far more complex than the history books would like us to believe, rich fodder for my active imagination. These are the stories I write. My goal is to start a conversation with my writing by highlighting strong women who have fought with dignity and determination for the agency to weave a rich tapestry of inclusion and acceptance.
